Support and Extention
On May 6, Northern Gateway and the AEP Stewards filed a request to the National Energy Board to seek a three-year extension of the sunset clauses in Northern Gateway’s Certificates authorizing the project.

As part of the process, the NEB asked for letters of comment from Canadians. The response in support of the extension request was strong.
In total more than 217 letters of support from individuals, businesses, associations, municipalities and First Nation and Métis communities were filed. Their support shows that this project is about more than building a pipeline, it is about building opportunities and real economic benefits for all Canadians.

Suspension of Request
As a result of the Federal Court of Appeal decision, the NEB has suspended the extension request process.

While the matter is remitted to the Federal Government for their redetermination, Northern Gateway will continue to further engage and build meaningful partnerships with First Nation and Métis communities.
