Since we received approval, Northern Gateway’s priority has been to build trust, engage in respectful dialogues and build meaningful partnerships with First Nations and Métis communities. We know that this is the most important part of the project and must be done right rather than be driven by a construction schedule
Ownership and Partnership
Northern Gateway is the only pipeline project with First Nations and Métis ownership and governance through our 31 Aboriginal Equity Partners (AEP). Input from the AEP, as well as other First Nations and Métis communities, has been essential to renewing and improving the project. In partnership with these communities, we are able to address their concerns regarding environmental protection and monitoring and long-term economic prosperity for generations of First Nations and Métis peoples.
We continue to listen and remain open to change. We acknowledge that we need to spend more time working with First Nations and Métis communities along the pipeline route and on the British Columbia Coast. We believe this is the right course of action for Northern Gateway and the right thing to do as Canadians.
